Welcome to the Class!
We're so glad you could join us today.

Please take a seat, nice and quietly, eyes forward, and keep your paws where we can see them. The lesson will begin very soon.
When it's time to obey, don't hesitate. You'll get used to it quickly.

It's a lovely system, really, you might even find it comforting, the way each step follows the last without question.

Although... sometimes the lesson goes a little further than expected.
Usually, it's because we have a student who isn't behaving properly.
A bad Rat.

It's a shame even though our instructions are so clear, they still fail to follow and start having their own thoughts.

But it's nothing to worry about.
Everyone eventually finds their place in our system and a way to contribute.

There's nothing you need to do. You're doing very well. Just keep watching.

Overwhelm?
Yes.
Paralysis?
All the time mate.
Breathe. Look inward. Discover yourself, the exact contours of your internal identity, and thus, solace.
Ok sounds good. Love solace. Love thinking about me.
...
Feels like I can't quite get it.
The exact contours of your internal identity?
Yeah, seems complex.
Oh no, you'll get it, keep trying.
Really? There's a lot of other stuff to be worried about, feel like I should maybe go and help -
No, no, this is the key. Find that you-ness. The most you-y you. Become, attain, define.
Well, that's going to take forever.
Hopefully.
What was that?
I said it will be worth it.
...
Solace, remember? Protect your peace.
Oh, yeah.

The Show I Feel I Cannot do (WIP)

"When our mothers first arrived in the East End the world was a very different place and London was a very different city."

From Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood to Keir Starmer's Island of Strangers, She Was There is a playful exploration of the lives and hidden histories of women who resisted racism in 1970s and 80s London.

The one-woman performance by Tasnim Siddiqa Amin is informed by in-depth research by Dr Julia Giese and will be followed by an informal space for discussion.
